Duration: 10 Weeks (03.2023 - 05.2023)

The Challenge

How do we design our Sustainability Mission Control (SMC) to bring data-driven insights into our operational decisions, which allow us to deliver on our sustainability goals?

Objectives

  • Align list of capabilities and agreement on prioritization across corporate/segments

  • Define data needs, process needs, and resource needs to support

  • Design deployment roadmap and gain leadership commitment on resources

Design Process

The team leveraged EY wavespace models to scope, probe, and comprehend the ask of the client and how to approach it.

Empathy Interviews

To better understand the context, the team conducted focus group interviews prior to the workshop to listen to their perspectives, needs and desires with respect to a future SMC.

All in all, over 50 people were interviewed across 17 focus groups, generating over 1,100 data points. They were synthesized into insights to generate inputs into the workshop design.

Workshop Agenda

We collectively developed a 2-day workshop agenda that included a series of interactive activities that would allow participants to discuss and articulate key problems they were all trying to solve for, and provide synergies and variations across different groups they are part of.

Production & Workshop Delivery

We leveraged Miro as a collaborative platform for designing workshop templates and allowing participants to be immersive and interactive throughout the session and make better business decisions.

Participants closed out the workshop with a high-energy elevator pitch to their leaders and customers about why they should support SMC and the potential power it could have to shape Mars' future decision-making and success.

As well as heartfelt commitments and reflections showing the power of getting a group of motivated individuals together to work towards a common goal.

Wrap-up

The Mars participants remained engaged, committed, and energized throughout the session. Their support and feedback for each other fostered collaboration and set each group up for success in subsequent exercises.

Mars left the workshop not only having ideated and achieved their desired outcomes, but also in creating energy, talking points, enthusiasm, and the all-important cross-company connections that will be needed to enable a successful design, implementation, and adoption of SMC in the months to come.
